"Strengthening community is essential to our vitality". This is a phrase the men of Delta Tau Delta carry with them always. This is a phrase we live our lives' by constantly, continually seeking to improve peoples' lives and strengthen community, both domestically and abroad. We have served people and communities through a variety of organizations, never catering to one specific need or outlet of service. In previous years we have been the fraternity with the most service hours and hope to accomplish this goal in the ‘08/’09 school year. In the past we have volunteered and served: -TRIKE The men of Delta Tau Delta are proud to raise money for and contribute donations to Riley Children’s Hospital, our fraternity’s primary philanthropy and philanthropic event which takes place the week of March 30th through April 4th. -Rebuilding the Wall We physically strengthen the surrounding Indianapolis community through manual labor from demolition to painting drywall as well as empowering the community members and new homeowners with a sound and safe environment to live. -St. Vincent de Paul We physically support ailing Indianapolis families through food distribution and ‘necessity giving’, distributing donated, used and/or new necessities (appliances, furniture, clothes, etc.) to families that truly need them. -Teacher’s Treasures We help sort and maintain donations from various companies and organizations so that teachers in high-poverty public schools have access to and can utilize school supplies that either their students or school districts cannot afford. -Damar Services We help this organization that supports individuals with learning disabilities through a variety of means, from making hand-turkeys for Thanksgiving to volunteering at a roller-skating party. -IPS 43 tutoring Individuals volunteer multiple times a week to support an after-school program that helps tutor children, grades Kindergarten through 5th, reading, writing and math along with their daily school-work. -College Mentors for Kids Individuals volunteer weekly to support students from surrounding public schools by tutoring them in a variety of subjects either at the local school or back at their respective college settings. -Circle K Individuals participate in this collegiate version of Key Club, funded by Kiwanis, that helps support and initiate service work in the community. -JUNTOS Individuals volunteer at IPS 61 once a week by tutoring ESL students, primarily Hispanic, with their school work and facilitating positive after-school programs. -Timmy Foundation Founded by a recent alumnus and continued by current brothers that are primarily pre-med, pharmacy, or other science majors volunteer over spring break by implementing and applying their knowledge of both the medical field and the Spanish language in Latin American countries. -Ambassadors for Children Founded by a recent alumnus and continued by current brothers, individuals in this organization have helped raise over $45,000 towards building a primary school in Uganda, traveled to Uganda this past summer to physically begin construction on the school, and are continuing to raise donations to furnish the school as well as raise awareness for this cause and other causes like this. -Fall Alternative Break Individuals have volunteered their time and efforts over Fall Break in Neon, Kentucky, in Appalachia, serving the local community and population in a variety of ways, from distributing food and a local food pantry to demolishing and rebuilding inadequate housing. -Ambassadors of Change Individuals volunteer their time and efforts leading a successful PuLSE program involving 50-60 incoming freshman based on the principles of service-learning, introducing and incorporating these students to service in the surrounding community.
